Nearby. With the awesome help of [info]taranhero,[info]psychotropek, and [info]vogon999, my stuff was conquered, moved by trireme to a nearby island, and deposited there. Now I just have to get through this weekend.

Internet may be hard, but it may not be. We shall see.

I do not like driving truck-sized vehicles. No rear view mirror on the windshield? Monstrous!

VNV Nation and Parkway Concert Orchestra [May. 1st, 2009|07:09 am]

[Current Location |home]

Because all I post about is concerts, apparently.

First, VNV Nation. Paradise Rock Club (which is oddly enough where I went to Los Campesino's!, it's a good club, though I'd want to get there early enough to be on the ground this time), July 17th. Who's in?

Secondly, Parkway. This Sunday, i.e. in TWO DAYS, we are playing a buncha music. Copied from, ah, my mother's lj. *gasp*

The Parkway Concert Orchestra concludes its 2008-09 “Season of Celebrations” with a spring concert on Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 100 Winter Street, Norwood.

Music Director and Conductor Matthew Fritz presents the 50-piece orchestra in an American classical and pops program including “America! Patriot Themes”, Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody”, Grofe’s “On the Trail”, Griffes’ “The White Peacock”, Anderson’s “Blue Tango”, medley “Broadway Tonight” and selections from Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 9 From the New World”. The concert features the world premiere of “Orchestral Celebration” by Phoenix, Arizona composer and percussionist Joshua Michael Carro. This is the first piece commissioned for the orchestra by conductor Matthew Fritz, and commemorates his inaugural season as Music Director.

The program is supported in part by a grant from the Norwood Cultural Council, a local agency, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Ticket prices are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors and $8 for children under 12 years old. For ticket reservations, please call 781-762-0288 and for more information, visit the orchestra's web site at www.ParkwayConcertOrchestra.org .

They're going to be at the Bank of America pavilion, at 7:30 pm, on Tuesday June 9th.

I am planning on purchasing tickets for myself, [info]conspiratrix and [info]jameyhasnolj. Tickets look like they're going to be 20 plus 5 or something fees.

I'm going to be ordering, mm, let's say tomorrow. If anyone wishes to sit with us, speak now! I think there's only up to 5 at a time, so I can't be sure of sitting people together beyond two more, but...still, figured I'd note it.

Their new album, Hazards of Love, is *amazing*. Like, best story album I've ever heard.

Does anyone know of any particular events or conflicts occurring the weekend of February 21st? i.e. the 21st (Saturday) or 22nd (Sunday)?

This is Deeply Important. ;-)

Edit: How about President's Day, the Monday before?

As an explanation, I'm wondering when having a games party thing would make sense that week.

The final episode of Battlestar Galactica season 3 is amazing. Holy crap.

Also the bass in the version of All Along The Watchtower is just about the most epic it possibly could have been. I might have noticed the bass specifically because I've played too much Rock Band. Maybe.

This is a livejournal post about them. Ignore if you, say, do not want to see me play holiday music, or have an intense hatred of Titanic, even though it has nothing to do with the movie other than the fact that the ship sinks.

First, the concerts. Even though they're later. Info is at www.parkwayconcertorchestra.org It's a holiday concert. Mostly holiday music, plus something approaching the actual nutcracker suite, which is of course much better music.

Sunday, December 7, 2008 3:00 p.m.
Holiday Concert
St. Mary’s Parish Center
205 Washington St., East Walpole

Sunday, December 14, 2008 3:00 p.m.
First Congregational Church
100 Winter St., Norwood

Second, the show. The show is named Titanic the Musical, and is a musical. About the ship. Really, if you need more of a plot summary, I'd point you towards wikipedia. It seriously has nothing to do with the movie, and to be honest, I don't even know the plot much, since I just play music, man. However, all of you should come. It's got good music. The website is: http://www.needhamtheatre.org/
The dates and times are:
* Friday, November 21 at 8pm
* Saturday, November 22 at 8pm
* Sunday, November 23 at 2pm

* Saturday, November 29 at 2pm
* Saturday, November 29 at 8pm
* Sunday, November 30 at 2pm

The location is easy to get to, honestly, unless you don't have a car. In which case you should probably wheedle a ride, though there is a commuter rail station (Needham Center) roughly within long walking distance.

Performance Location

Newman School
1155 Central Avenue
Needham, MA 02492

Let me know if you are planning on coming to either (you don't have to, I just want to know) and if you happen to want to pre-order tickets, I can help with that if you wish. Seriously, all y'all should come.

This is a post about whipped garlic and airplane sex [Oct. 15th, 2008|08:57 am]

[Current Mood | chipper]

Not combined, though. Thankfully.

Yesterday, [info]psychotropek and I went to a concert in Boston: Edguy and Kamelot. But the adventure starts earlier than this!

For dinner, we had planned on going to a hole in the wall chinese place near the venue. Since it apparently is closed...on Tuesdays...we instead went to The Middle East, right nearby. Surprise guests included [info]matt_rah, his girl, and Alison. The key to this whole thing, though, was the whipped garlic. Essentially whipped garlic butter, we covered *everything* with it, pita, kabobs, kibby, falafel, everything. And it was delicious. Certain people who enjoy the taste of very strong garlic should endeavor to visit this restaurant.

Then there was the concert. Opener was Hypersolid, a screamy metal band whose main relevant attribute is that the lead singer, Sam Space, looks eerily like Rob C. And that he could scream for a *while*. I'm just picturing a session of madrigal where there's loud guitars and Rob yells "KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW THIS!" all the time. Then hobgoblins start singing the chorus.

Edguy is a melodic metal band that sings about superheroes and airplane sex. Everyone should like Edguy, because the first video contains playboy bunnies being shot with plungers and being chased around with nets, and the second...well, it's called Lavatory Love Machine, what more can I say? (both videos safe for work, and really funny)

Kamelot was okay, I guess. I didn't know any of the songs, and the sound was off for the first third, and the second third contained a guy with ridiculously poofy hair doing head banging right in front of us for no discernable reason or in any relation to the music.

In short, whipped garlic is the best evar. And looking at my icon makes me want to dance evermore. <3

I suppose I could put a bit more content here.

Thanks everyone who could make it on Saturday, I hope the apartment was just the right level of cramped for the number of people. Maybe someday we will convert the unfinished basement into something usable, or maybe open up more rooms upstairs. Perhaps.

...I really want a real bass pedal and some nicer drum pads to make drumming better. I shall ponder.

Finally, I'm doing pretty well. Thanks to the specific people who have helped keep me that way. Seriously, you know who you are.

Sonata Arctica/Nightwish and a Rock Baby [Jul. 21st, 2008|04:17 pm]

[Current Location |work]

Are playing in a concert, in Worcester (pronounced War-Chester, for those of you not familiar with the charming town), on August 30th. Naturally, this has to fall during an Endgame event, which I'm going to be leaving sometime Saturday in order to make.

Anyone interested? Tickets seem to be 26.50. Let me know, I figure we can organize rides and/or Endgame logistics if there are others who wish to go.

For those who don't know, Nightwish is my favorite band of favoriteness, playing symphonic/melodic metal, and Sonata Arctica is kind of hard to describe but is also deeply deeply awesome.

Everyone who enjoys rocking out should watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nojrb4sBH20, because that is far more awesome than I ever could be.

The world's easiest crockpot recipe [Jun. 29th, 2008|06:51 pm]
[Tags|]

I have just made it, and it is delicious. Stolen from elsewhere, of course.

THE EASIEST CROCK POT RECIPE IN DA WOILD:

1- Take some boneless chicken breasts. As many as you want.

2- Put 'em in the pot.

3- Dump a jar of delicious salsa (or picante) onto them. They should just barely cover the breasts. Breasts (snicker).

4- Turn on pot. Wait for 6-8 hours.

5- Add cilantro and a dollop of sour cream (optional).

6- Nom!
